Hokkaido Summer Institute

Hokkaido University (HU) in Japan established the Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) in 2016. 154 courses, including 108 graduate level courses and 46 undergraduate level courses, will be offered by HU faculties and more than 130 world-leading researchers from all over the world in 2025.

In addition to face-to-face courses, we will partly offer online courses. Participants can choose a format which meets their convenience. Many of the courses are open to both students and adults.

HSI 2025 covers most of the disciplines of the university, and enables participants to expand their academic knowledge and develop skills. They can also cultivate a better understanding of other cultures and improve their communication skills through the HSI. It also gives them the opportunity to attend field training using Hokkaido’s extensive landscape and to engage in active learning so that they are capable of thriving on the world stage.

Each course is worth 1 or 2 academic credits. Most of the courses run for one or two weeks. Participants can tailor their own summer program by combining courses according to their major and interests. The medium of instruction is in English.
