The Australia Japan Society – Queensland is delighted to announce that former AJS-Q President and current Committee member Mr Ross McConachie was recently presented with The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.

His conferment was announced as a 2020 Spring Imperial Decoration but was delayed due to COVID-19. Ross received the award at a special ceremony held on Friday, 26 March, at the official residence of the Consul-General of Japan Mr Tanaka Kazunari, who hosted the evening.

The award was in recognition of Ross’ contributions to promoting inter-regional exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Australia. During his time as Vice-Present (2002-2007), and President (2007-2012) of the AJS-Q, Ross initiated several projects, including the Society’s annual careers seminar, and contributed greatly to the reinvigoration of the Kobe-Brisbane Sister City relationship, which celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2020.
