Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner acknowledged and commemorated the 35th anniversary of the Brisbane Kobe Sister City relationship in a Motion of Appreciation at the Brisbane City Council Meeting on 3 November.

Acknowledges and commemorates the 35th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Brisbane and the City of Kobe, Japan.
Sister city arrangements continue to build significant civic and cultural ties between cities and foster relationships through sporting educational and social exchanges as well as develop through tourism, trade and business.
The Lord Mayor, Deputy Mayor and several Councillors outlined that the Brisbane Kobe relationship was Brisbane’s first Sister City relationship and spans business, trade, tourism, education sport and cultural exchange.
It is a strong relationship built on friendship, mutual understanding and assistance, particularly in times of natural disaster.
Present for the acknowledgement and commemoration was the Consul-General of Japan Mr Kazunari Tanaka, Deputy Consul-General Mr Takeshi Tanabe, Cultural Consul Mr Naohiro Hayakawa, Cultural Affairs Officer Ms Shannon Wiley, Chair of the BCC Sister Cities Steering Committee and Past President of the AJS-Q Mr Ross Humphreys and President of the AJS-Q Ms Margaret Rackemann.
The 35th anniversary of the Brisbane Kobe Sister City relationship will be commemorated via a redevelopment and update of Bonsai House located at Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha, near the Japanese Garden.
