New Year’s Message from the President

明けましておめでとうございます。今年もよろしくお願いします。
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2024 and the year of the dragon!
I hope you all had a safe and wonderful Christmas and New Year period.

Unfortunately, the recent earthquake on the west coast of Japan has resulted in a very difficult and sad start to 2024 for many in Japan, particularly those living in the worst hit areas around the Noto Peninsula.

Our hearts go out to all the people who have lost their lives or been affected by this disaster. Our condolences also go out to the people who lost their lives in the aircraft accident at Haneda airport on 2 January.

The AJS-QLD has an exciting calendar of events planned for 2024, including several annual favourites as well as some great new events. These include the very popular 'Evening in a Japanese Garden',the annual ‘Japan-Related Careers Evening’ as well as a number of networking and cultural events covering the Society’s core areas of culture, business and education. Please watch for more news on upcoming events via the website, enewsletter, Facebook and Instagram.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to meeting you in 2024.

David Shield
President | Australia Japan Society - Queensland
